Factory Sunroof, can it be done?
Hey,
I am one of the lucky ones who didn't get a sunroof in my Z24. Would it be possible, to go to a wreckers, rip the assembly out of a z24 with a sunroof, headliner and switch and take it to a shop that does sunrooves, and have them cut the hole and drop it in? I really want a sunroof for this summer. Maybe you would know Cody? Looks like your car has one, don't know if you put it in yourself or not, I never knew 4 doors came with them :P And help is appreciated!

Re: Factory Sunroof, can it be done?
sure you can. You dont need the headliner though, it will be cut with the roof.
I had one installed in my 1988 z-24 just like you are wanting to do.
went to the scrap yard and removed one from a wreck, took it to a local body shop and had them install it.
the only thing they required was a new seal for the roof to sunroof

i have one of those, they're called RS's, they also often feature a 5 speed tranny, power mirrors (of all things) and a stock cd player

Re: Factory Sunroof, can it be done?
You can. Your car is already wired for one to the harness. You just need a new head dome light/ sunroof harness from GM cut that sunroof out wider so there will be a tab running around the outside of the sunroof to weld onto. Then snag the headliner as well. Your going to then need your roof re-painted.
Or you go aftermarket and spend 700-800 bucks for a power one. Mines aftermarket and i'm kicking myself now for it not being powered. I might upgrade it down the road to a powered one. But its not a big deal right now.

Re: Factory Sunroof, can it be done?
Awesome, so on the car I grab the sunroof out of, I should grabt he mirror, healdiner, dome and switch? where is the plug tucked in on my Z to hook a factory sunroof up? I imagine the switch is a few wires witha clip on the end.

Re: Factory Sunroof, can it be done?
The wiring harness that runs up your a-pillar is the one you need to switch. The body harness up to that point is ready for the sunroof. The sunroof switch i believe is in the headliner along with dome light. Power mirrors i'm not sure of. I prefer the manuals and i haven't torn a part a j with them so i don't know. The are probably on the same harness i would imagine since it runs in the same area.

Re: Factory Sunroof, can it be done?
So the Left A Pillar people usually put pod guages on? pull er off? I have had my headliner out before, I never saw a extra plug for a sunroof switch, just the dome light, as for the wires in the A Pillar, is there a point where you can unclip them from the body harness and clip the sunroof harness in? ANd the power mirrors, the wires for them goes through your door firewall, I have them, they dont go near A pillar at all

Alright, can't see it very good but is that the clip for the sunroof switch? Or the switch, and the dome and shit?
