How in the hell do you remove the EVO components from the power steering pump. My pump went bad last night and I bought a pump that came with the resovior but without the Variable Actuator. I can get the part that has the plug off but I cannot figure out how to get the rest off. I am trying to remove the part with a big bolt (over 1" diameter) and its the part where the pressure hose connects into. I can see where it connects to the new pump but I cannot get it off the old one. How do I get the rest off? Please and Thanks.

Are you talking about the variable assist steering actuator (VASA) sensor or the pressure hose fittings ?

the thing that the pressure hose connects to is also connected to the VASA. i already have the plug-in part off but i just have to get the pressure hose fitting off, it has a big bolt. do i have to remove this big bolt. if so i dont know what size it is but i know its bigger than an inch.

Green arrow is th epressure line and the nut that removes it.
Red arrow doeesnt come off.

oh i wasnt talking about where the red arrow is. at the bottom of that part is where the big bolt is. but anyway i got the EVO components off and transfered them to my new pump and now i still dotn have power steering. i bled the air out and bled the old fluid out. after that it stopped foaming and it didnt whine anymore so i decided to lower it to the ground to try it and theres no power steering. so i think i think the EVO might be broken. ive read another forum and it said that they didnt have power steering also and tey found out the EVO was broken. and yes i made sure it was plugged in haha.

Yeah its pita to remove that sensor.

I usually just buy the pump with the evo/vasa sensor and swap the resivour.
Pretty damn pricey either way !

On the bleeding, it can take a long while sometimes. The trick is not letting it foam up. Sythetic PS fluid IMO foams less. Also thier is a proceudre in the Tips & maintenance section.

And double check the wires on the sensor, they can get damaged. Check for continuity & power w key on.

well i am going to return this pump and get the money back cause i ordered another one from another place that already has the EVO stuff on it. Yeah i bled the air out and everything and flushed it and put new fluid in and let it sit for a while and tried and it seemed okay. then i lowered it to the ground and turned the wheel and there was no assist. so i think the EVO was broken. but when i get my other pump in i will post an update. thanks for the help xero.

okay sorry to ask this question i just dont want to start another thread for this little question. when i bleed the air out of the cooling system using the bleeder valve, does the car have to be warmed up to operating temperature? because when my ps pump pulley broke i didnt shut off the engine right away and since the water pump wasnt working the engine heated and the coolant boiled out. so i refilled and now i just need to bleed the air out. so should i wait until the engine is warm then open the valve? is it just like bleeding the brakes, wait until fluid comes out then shut it? please and thanks.

Yes when bleeding the cooling system the engine should be warmed up. Thier is a small write up in the Tips & mainenance section.

Hopefuly you didnt do any damage to your gaskets.

no theres no damage to the gaskets it only overheated for like a few seconds. then i shut the engine off. yeah i think im going to bleed it today. so i just get the engine warmed up, leave it running with the heat on the windshield and fan on high right? then slowly open that little bolt until i hear air and when coolant starts coming out then close it up and check the coolant level right? oh and by the way i got another rebuilt pump and it came included with the reservior and VASA sensor and pulley and everything installed for $75. i put it in last night after i replaced that stupid return hose and bled it and it is WAY quieter than any other pump i've ever had. thanks for the help.
