1992 Park Avenue Ultra Supercharger Info

My mother has the above mentioned car and is having serious problems with the supercharger. We cannot afford the $3000 CDN (yes we are in Canada) for a replacement unit and know some mechanics that will do the work. What I need is information about the unit.

Supposedly the Alldata.com system has "All the information" but it doesn't. It says "replace the unit whole". Great.

Does anyone have, or know how to get, the information/manual/parts list whatever for this supercharger so that we can do the repair work ourselves.

I got a partial piece of information from a fellow who couldn't find anymore info:

...."I have just replaced the bearings and seal in the supercharger
nosepiece and have driven the car for an hour. I installed two
bearings (1-6204.C3, 1-6203.C3) and 1-7965 CR oil seal in the
nosepiece. The process was pretty easy, however, you do need to be
able to press the bearing and drive shaft in and out of the housing.
The parts cost about $25.00 CDN, thats alot cheaper than the $450 USD
for a new nosepiece. The seal is not the same as the original, but it
can be replaced without removing the supercharger. I'll keep all
informed as to the progress."

Searching for this info has so far turned up nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I certainly love the $25 CDN price tag and some work rather than the $3K CDN we've been quoted.

Thanks again,
Allan

As far as I know GM does not recommend repairing these but here is some info that may be helpfull. Magnuson Products, 3172 Bunsen Avenue, # K, Ventura, CA, 93003. Telephone Number 800-648-6436 or 805-642-8833. Fax 805-642-1936. This is the only authorized remanufacturer for GM.

Hi,

Thanks,

I've bumped into their website and seen their products. The $800US is still quite high as it turns into something like $1500CDN plus shipping, which as far as I can tell is still near the $2KCDN mark. Then labor on top of that? We just can't afford it.

The only reason we bought the car last year was my brother was nearly killed in her previous car when he was hit and run by a pick-up truck from which he still hasn't recovered. This car came from an estate sale for a real deal and was great because she has a bad back from a car accident of her own and she feels safe in it. It was in good shape, but now the brakes failed, the water pump, the alternator, and anti-locks still don't work after 3 repairs on which we seemed to have gotten screwed by the service shop. We are tapped out and she needs the car to get to work.

We know that it is recommended to replace the unit but it isn't feasible right now unless someone else wants to pay for it. Yeah right...

Anyway, thanks for the thought and the effort to write.

Allan

Hey guys, I have the same deal but with a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville. The supercharger inner bearings are noisy (have taken it off the car and can see that the nosepiece is good, but ithe inner bearings are the problem). I am not sure if you finished the car or not, but was just wondering if you could help me with the project (any place that can do this bearing repair for me)
Thank You very Much

I had a similar problem on my 92 ultra. If its just noise from the nose of the charger, it could just be the pulley coupler, these are made of plastic stock, and wear out all to soon. When my charger started making a lot of grinding I put a new one on and took apart the old one. I found the coupler problem, as well as a bearing that needed changing.

The company that makes these chargers Is EATON AUTOMOTIVE.. Check out their website www.automotive.eaton.com

what exaclty is wrong with your charger allanhs??
