'72 mustang to cougar floor boards

i think the title was specific enough but if not. i've got a '72 cougar XR7 that needs new floor boards. From my knowledge the cougar was built off the mustang chassis till '73 or a little later. can i buy a new floor board for a '72 mustang and fab and weld it easily enough into my cougar? please let me know if i'm right or wrong about something. Any help concerning this or any information regarding mustang to cougar part interchange would be very appreciated.

this post i think may have been a little more suitable for the muscle car>mercury forum but it's been quite inactive for a good long time now.
