I have a 96 gmc sonoma 4.3 x-motor, manual tranny with z85 suspension package, 3.08 rear end. i've been considering putting an eaton locker in because open diff in a 2wd pickup sucks. i've found some fairly cheap but they all say are compatible with 3.23(can't remember the exact spec) and up to 3.73 i realize i would have to replace the case and pinion gear and ring gear and all that good stuff but will it even fit? also is there any way of making the locker with a lower gear ratio than 3.73?
any help would be appreciated
thanks

i went on ebay and bought a whole rear end with 3.42 gears and the factory g80 posi unit for $400. i hated the 3.08 and open diff. just unbolted the driveshaft, shocks, brake line, and rear end of the leaf springs, rolled the old axle out, the new in, bolted everything back, and off i went. speedo reads about 10 mph high, but other than that it's great.
