I heard a loud noise that I thought to be valve noise but after warming up and driving for a mile it went away. I found some info. on this referring to bad valve lash adjusters. Has anyone had any problems with this?

no but alot of 90s subarus did develop some bad sounding rod knock often. especially if you dont change the oil every 3k. theres no cure other than a rebuilt or used engine, so if you do find out that your valvetrain is ok, keep up the oil changes and be gentle with the car to prolong the inevitable.
now the fact that ive never heard of faulty valve lash adjusters doesnt mean its not your problem. do more research and hopefully someone else chimes in.

if it sounds like that, your likely on the right track. rod knock is more of an off idle knocking sound, like when you manually open the throttle quickly, youll hear a knocking sound as the revs climb, but then it quiets off and is not loud at idle or at a constant rpm. and rod knock is a lot louder under load.
