140 series tranny????

I've got a 1970 144s with the standard 3 speed automatic tranny, anyone know of Volvo tranny i can swap this thing with? One with more than 3 gears??? Did they not have expressways back then???? lets be serious here Volvo! anyway, i've been doin mods to the car and with only 3 gears the benefit is short lived. Any ideas? Any and all info would be great!!!! Thanks.

Sorry but I am afraid you are stuck with the 3 speed auto unless you change engines. The B10-B20 engine series used in the 140 series sits straight or upright, the B21-B23-B230 engine series is canted to the right about 20 degrees. This means that the 4 speed overdrive trany's from the 200 and 700 series will not work on your 140 .... sorry
