car stalled while cruising at 80mph...what the f*ck??

Hi all today I was driving home while doing about 80mph and all of a sudden car just lost power and when I came to a stop it would just turn but would not fire. Prior to this drive I added a little too much oil but I don't think that would do anything to the car wouldn't it?? The oil indicator light lit up for about 10 minutes before it stalled. Also, I've been having a minor leak visible from the front cover but I really don't think that would cause it to lose power and stall all of a sudden right? The guys from the towing company told me that it could be the timing chain? Is there even a timing chain in this car?? Also, when I finally stopped and popped the hood, there were smoke coming out from under the hood and the car. Anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong with my car??? Any advices or ideas will be appreciated! Thanks!

yeah first off legends don't have timing chains they have timing belts. Also it would have been because you flood the engine with the Oil. That is why your light came on. The smoke is what indicated that. That is also the other reason you can't fire it back up. The started was probably fucked. By the way what year was your car. Sorry about the car.:smoka: :smoker2: :flash:

just to let you guys know that the person (a mechanic) who bought my car did NOT have to put a new engine in!!! All he did was changed the timing belt & waterpump and the car ran again...

So...we can pretty much conclude that even though the legend's engine is an interference engine, that doesn't necessarily mean that the engine is gone when the timing belt breaks.

peace.

Re: car stalled while cruising at 80mph...what the f*ck??

I've been having the same stalling problems with my 87 Legend coupe 2.7L. When it does stall it often will not restart. It will turn over but won't engage. My dealership first replaced the Main Relay and then a sensor (top something something...? sensor). The problem persists and they are now saying it might be the ECU $$$$. These guys couldn't replicate the problem in the shop and they can't seem to find the answer. I'm now wondering if it is the distributor. Any suggestions?

I havent posted here in awhile because No body answers.

will you answer now??
I have a 90 Legend that running fine. I happened to look under my passenger seat and noticed I have a code red. 8 blinks,... 8 blinks,... 8 blinks,... etc. My book said its the TDC Crank angle. located in the distributor. So Ive gotta replace it right. what are the warning signs befor it goes. or does it just go??

I have a 88 Legend it stalled at about 40mph and will not start. I replaced the coil, rotor, cap and still no start or spark. Could it be the radio condenser ?

When you replaced the cap and rotor did you see red dust? That means that the distributor is about to go or in your case probably already did.

Thanks for your reply turned out to be the ignitor. How hard is it to do the cv joints on these cars 88 Acura Legend Sedan. I did part swap but the car has 260,000 miles on it and my kid drives it to and from school and band practice late in the evening just making sure all is ok.
