I know people have had problems removing them just using the din-tools.
If you first "unlock" it, you could try to remove the astray and get your hand behind it.

Jetta radio removal

Sorry for the ignorance, but what are the din-tools?

Re: 97 VW Factory Radio Question

The DIN tool is a flat, about 1/4" wide slat of metal like a knife. You have to use two at a time and pull out simultaneously. They work perfectly. When I lost them, I used a tool in my junkbox that was flat, I had two of them and the radios come out effortlessly. I am not sure what the problem is?

Also, anyone know how the wiring works on the radio harness and the CD player harness? I want to interrupt one to put in audio coming out of a DVD pplayer?
