cold air induction box?????

I know for one thing that the cold air induction box is used on the ram air hood. But if you don't have the hood, i heard that u can channel it through the front grills, is this true. Cause they give nice horsepower. thanx

Im a bit confused. I bought a Thrasher Cold Air Induction Kit for my GTP last fall and never had to channel it to the front grill area or get a Ram Air Hood to hook it up that way.

Well, i think that's because the thrasher i think is a different, and more efficient setup. I was referring to the SLP and ADC... < forget exact name. They are a bit cheaper and what i was looking for. I think they are used with the Ram Air hood conventionally.

Yes, I think the SLP Cool Air Induction may work with the hood. Do you have a hood for your GP yet? I don't and didn't feel like paying $800 for a hood. So thats why I spent the little extra for the Thrasher Kit than the SLP. I believe both improve horsepower by 12+hp. Its noticable in the 0-45mph range.

Nope, i don't have the ram air hood. I agree that the price is ridiculous, and on top of that they have to be painted professionally. I really want one but that is a long term investment for me. That's why i was wondering if the box could be channeled through the front grille for the time being, and then i will change the setup to accomadate to the ram air hood (when i can actually afford it.) I guess the thrasher could be vice virsa but i wasn't sure about if the slp and other one could work without the hood.

The problem with channeling it into the front grills is, your engine may overheat. Think about it, thats how the air get into the electric fans and blows air on the motor. The cool air induction box replaces the stock air filter box and attaches right to the air hose. I think you are thinking more ram air than a cool air induction system. Maybe not....we will finish this covo through PM is that allright?

Actually you braught up a good point. I always thought that the term "ram air" was the hood+CAI. From what you said, i think im wrong. Is ram air a different mod from the CAI, cause i always thought that the CAI was in a respect ram air. I was always looking at CAI's, if ram air is a different box or something, maybe i should look into that instead.

A CAI is usually an "in the engine bay" cold air intake. It does its best to pull air in from behind the headlight and from the opening on the fender well. A true ram air system is one that takes advantage of pressure built up as you begin to hit high speeds (70+). The slp add on for their CAI allows you to channel air from the ram air hood inlet(s) into your airbox to take advantage of the pressure build up at high speeds.

I had the thrasher CAI setup on my 01 gtp and was satisfied with it. I was hoping for more but was content with the gain. I then picked up a fenderwell intake pipe after I saw some great reviews on them and am seriously happy I did. I felt a noticeable improvement over the Thrasher system with it, especially on the top end 90+ where the gtp seems to lag off in power compared to the mad dash up to 90. FWI intake is the best way to go if you want to build the most power. Inlet air temps are kept very low.

This is my setup. I have it heat wrapped now, and plan to have it jet hot coated eventually.

So basically the SLP is the only version that uses the ram air hood, and it still goes by the same name of Cold Air Induction box? versus the convensional one that takes air from behind the headlights. I think i catch ya. Thanks for the pic by the way, nice setup

Very Nice...As far as I know SLP is the only one that uses the hood. The Thrasher or what Joe Joe has looks great and will work great with you Pontiactrac

Make a Fenderwall intake. Looks like crap but performs the best. And its half as much as a CAI.

As far as I know; Thrasher, SLP, Motorsports, S&B, etc. all make both a Ram-Air and an under-hood application for CAI. As far as which one is better... I have been reading arguments and debates stating that the difference in marked performance is very marginal.

The Thrasher's are loud. The SLP's are a quieter operation. I think the Thrasher looks the best out of them all. Also all of them give about the same HP.
