Finished Photos: Subaru Impreza Safari Rally 1998 (lots of pics)freakray 02-05-2003, 09:02 PM Hey everyone, Here are some photos of my most recently completed kit, the Subaru Impreza Safari Rally 1998 from Tamiya. I added photo etch belts and some C/F decals for a bit of added realism. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/502466subside.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/890740subrear.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/677622sub75top.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/215392subfront.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/350497subdetail.JPG Hope you guys enjoy seeing what I have been doing......I look forward to hearing your comments, good or bad :) Ray daggerlee 02-05-2003, 09:17 PM Did you raise the suspension, or are they generally set that high for Safari? Top notch work, love the CF snorkel :) Jarrod Li 02-05-2003, 09:25 PM It does look raised. The safari rallies are generally the roughest courses and the 1:1 cars do sit a bit higher for those races. freakray 02-05-2003, 09:32 PM Dan, The suspension is straight from the box, I didn't modify it. I can assure you they have some serious rocks on the Safari, not to mention water washes and all types of unthinkable terrain, the teams do lift the cars a lot to give them clearance. Ray RX7FD 02-05-2003, 09:33 PM Very nice work, now I gotta get my lazy ass to finish my Impreza. And how did you paint those springs???? daggerlee 02-05-2003, 09:47 PM That's what I thought, Ray. Again, great job you've done :) .porkchop. 02-05-2003, 09:47 PM whoa! its so high! we all talk about lowering our model cars, but omg that thing is ready for makin some dirt bike jumps! hehe...great job! looks amazing, how come the exhuast is white? Ghost_9418 02-05-2003, 09:50 PM That looks really great. I like the snorkel Veyron 02-05-2003, 09:50 PM Nice, clean build!:D ZoomZoomMX-5 02-05-2003, 09:55 PM Gorgeous work...now build another one that's the "after" version w/lots of mud, dirt, and battle scars like a real rally car looks!:flipa:  :D tonioseven 02-06-2003, 12:12 AM Beautiful work Ray! I wish I could actually drive it:devil: 935k3 02-06-2003, 12:40 AM Great work Ray. I especially like the screen guard up front and the carbon fiber on the air intake. Did you use white under the Mica Blue? primera man 02-06-2003, 02:16 AM Nice looking work on this one Ray :) It does sit high, but when you see the roads they race on you understand why  bigfrit 02-06-2003, 02:50 AM :D Great work Ray! You can really see the result of a lot of experience and time you spent on making it look bettrer, now it looks fabulous! Ciao Olivier Forhod 02-06-2003, 07:22 AM kooL! Nice work dude. flyonthewall 02-06-2003, 07:56 AM Quality work again Ray! SirWelshy 02-06-2003, 08:03 AM very nice ;) Vagabond_se7en 02-06-2003, 10:11 AM Great job man, I can use these pix for reference, I hope mine turns out just as good as yours. Marco_Wrc 02-06-2003, 11:01 AM Very good looking. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/icons/icon14.gif freakray 02-06-2003, 12:52 PM Thanks for all the compliments guys:) Bob, I couldn't bring myself to weather one after all the hours that go into getting a clean build;) 935k3, yes, I did use white under the Mica Blue. Vagabond_se7en, I don't know that it is good enough to be a reference Thanks again all. your compliments are appreciated. Ray Guido 02-06-2003, 04:09 PM Seems like I'm a bit late to comment, but nevertheless NICE JOB Ray!! Snorkel is cool indeed! RallyRaider 02-06-2003, 04:49 PM A big thumbs up for your Safari Subie Ray! And another for the Carbon fibre on the snorkel, any more inside? Can you get hold of some 555 decals to replace the non-tobacco cresents? The safari allowed full tobacco branding so the car ran the event in the politically incorrect scheme. Did you use a silver base coat for the Mica Blue? Jay! 02-06-2003, 05:46 PM Top notch, Ray! What's next? Scooby #9? :p freakray 02-06-2003, 07:01 PM Guido, Never too late:p Phil, I tried to find some 555's for the car since I also knew the decals weren't correct to the 1998 Safari, but couldn't get hold of any:mad: There is some C/F decalling on the interior, I did the door panels and a few other little things, but since this is a strange kit in the fact that once the body is on, it ain't coming off(mud flaps prevent this) I didn't get too carried away with it. I used a white base coat, since it was sprayed before I knew about the silver base coat..... Jay, Nah, street version next, then probably a 2001 WRC Subaru..have to see ;) Thanks guys :) Ray mhpspeed 02-06-2003, 07:18 PM thats awsome, I love rally cars, (wacth it on speed channel) but ive only got around to building one rally car I really enjoyed it untill it fell off my dresser (where it was sitting with some other models) while I was dusting them off. When u say street version do u mean tarmac or like a regular subaru? This model along wiht the tarn=mac version and anohter one are down at my LHS not sure if I will get them cause I will be urged to by all three of themm and that would be around $90 with each one priced at $30. My hobby shop rips people off on tamiyas. freakray 02-06-2003, 07:20 PM mhpspeed, street version means regular road car version, tarmac version means the tarmac rally car, and gravel means off road rally car......at least that is how I think of them:) Ray RallyRaider 02-06-2003, 07:27 PM And then there are all the differrent types of gravel! Safari spec for Kenya, Smooth gravel for NZ and GB, Rough for the Acropolis.. Okay, I'll shut up now... :bloated: BTW Ray, probably too late since the car is finished, but should you feel the need to retrofit some 555s I've got a sheet with a whole range of them. More than I could possibly use so I can cut some off and send them if you're interested. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
