Here are some photos of my most recently completed kit, the Subaru Impreza Safari Rally 1998 from Tamiya.
I added photo etch belts and some C/F decals for a bit of added realism.

Did you raise the suspension, or are they generally set that high for Safari?

Top notch work, love the CF snorkel :)

It does look raised. The safari rallies are generally the roughest courses and the 1:1 cars do sit a bit higher for those races.

The suspension is straight from the box, I didn't modify it.
I can assure you they have some serious rocks on the Safari, not to mention water washes and all types of unthinkable terrain, the teams do lift the cars a lot to give them clearance.

whoa! its so high! we all talk about lowering our model cars, but omg that thing is ready for makin some dirt bike jumps! hehe...great job! looks amazing, how come the exhuast is white?

Great work Ray. I especially like the screen guard up front and the carbon fiber on the air intake. Did you use white under the Mica Blue?

A big thumbs up for your Safari Subie Ray! And another for the Carbon fibre on the snorkel, any more inside?

Can you get hold of some 555 decals to replace the non-tobacco cresents? The safari allowed full tobacco branding so the car ran the event in the politically incorrect scheme.

Did you use a silver base coat for the Mica Blue?

I tried to find some 555's for the car since I also knew the decals weren't correct to the 1998 Safari, but couldn't get hold of any:mad:
There is some C/F decalling on the interior, I did the door panels and a few other little things, but since this is a strange kit in the fact that once the body is on, it ain't coming off(mud flaps prevent this) I didn't get too carried away with it.
I used a white base coat, since it was sprayed before I knew about the silver base coat.....

thats awsome, I love rally cars, (wacth it on speed channel) but ive only got around to building one rally car I really enjoyed it untill it fell off my dresser (where it was sitting with some other models) while I was dusting them off. When u say street version do u mean tarmac or like a regular subaru? This model along wiht the tarn=mac version and anohter one are down at my LHS not sure if I will get them cause I will be urged to by all three of themm and that would be around $90 with each one priced at $30. My hobby shop rips people off on tamiyas.

street version means regular road car version, tarmac version means the tarmac rally car, and gravel means off road rally car......at least that is how I think of them:)

And then there are all the differrent types of gravel! Safari spec for Kenya, Smooth gravel for NZ and GB, Rough for the Acropolis..

BTW Ray, probably too late since the car is finished, but should you feel the need to retrofit some 555s I've got a sheet with a whole range of them. More than I could possibly use so I can cut some off and send them if you're interested.
