Thumbs up New to this Forum

Hello all,

I am looking at buying a 350Z here within the next few months.
I'm very happy to have found this online resource. I have allot of reading to do!
I stopped by a dealer yesterday and instantly fell in love with the Track model they had on the showroom floor.
Those Brembo's look tough! I couldn't take one for a drive (just about all I need to seal the deal) because it was raining, but I'm thinking about taking tomorrow off so I can go back and take one for a spin.

I can't believe how "in demand" these machines seem to be.
I'm not used to trying to wheel and deal on a vehicle when the dealers won't really budge all that much.

From what I've read, it seems people are very excited if they can manage to pick one up for the sticker price.
To me that's insane.

I really want the model with the Forged wheels and Brembo calipers. I would love to take that machine to the next SCCA event.

So, does anyone track their Z?
(And I'm not interested in "Whooped up on a C5 Corvette" or "blew the doors off a 911 C4 at a redlight" storys)

Anyway, glad to be a part of this forum and look forward to any advice you present owners can give me.

Thanks,
Ellis

The Touring model is seeming to be a better deal..
I'm just doing research right now, maybe it will become real.

the brakes are great on all of the other models as well. track model doesn't have any added performance.

i'd stay away from the track unless money doesn't matter to you.

MSRP

At the time I bought my 350, the dealer did an excellent job of trying to create the illusion of high demand that warrants a premium above MSRP. The whole buying process took several hours. During this time I noticed multiple people walk up to the vehicle and ask if they could test drive it. When the dealer explained that they would need to sit down and work out a deal before they were handed the keys, almost all of them walked away. Truth is there are a lot of curious people but I doubt if the number of serious buyers is higher than the number of vehicles on the market. At the end of the day I paid MSRP, and that was back in October when the Z was really new. If I were you I wouldn't pay a dime over MSRP. When buying a car I walk out two or three times and fall out of my chair at least once. Drastic but effective.

The track model is a nice choice. I really like the looks of the rims. The only real differences from a mechanical standpoint are the better brakes and the aerodynamic package that actually works (ie lowers drag coefficient & zero lift @ 100 mph). Good luck

I don't believe you will hear any stories about blowing any (performance cars) doors off, may be a Honda or Escort, but these things are not big performers.

We talked to a guy with a track model and he said the brakes are grabby and he has been beaten by almost everyone he raced. He also said the ride on the track is very choppy other than interstate driving.

I would opt for the touring with leather, you can not get with a track, or wait a year and leather will probably be available on the track, too. Also performance will be improved next year. I think Nissan is hearing a lot from owners about being embarassed on the street. I bet you can't outdrive the brakes on a touring anyway, even if you slolom. Personally, I scrub off speed with the tires and gears, not the brakes.

If you remember when the last generation Z's came out, the twin turbos were about 6 months later, and well worth the wait. You have already waited this long just hold on for a while and really get VALUE.

I believe, in Texas, you could probably buy a new Z for $2000 under list if you did not have a trade-in. Used cars are dead and dealers don't want any more. Also qualified buyers are far and few (or is that few and far) between. Right now cash talks BIG!!! Try it.

I agree with waiting! Save up for when a turbo, or better performance model comes out. I am setting aside $150 a paycheck for about 3 years. It will give me something close to $12,000 to throw down on the R-35, If it ever gets here!
