My 2000 Rodeo's check engine light keeps coming on every time I fill the tank with gas. I swear I tighten the gas cap more than 3 clicks after I gas up. Could the cap be faulty? If I change the cap will the light go out on it's own or do I need to have a mechanic clear the code again? Please help

hmm, sounds weird. It might possibly be a faulty gas cap or might be something else. The next time the light comes on, take your truck to autozone and have them do a code scan and see what your ecm is picking up. Post that problem up and i'll try to help ya out. I've got a 99' rodeo myself and it's running great. Also a self mechanic so if you got n e questions just feel free to post and i'll get back with ya. L8ters.:flash:

Actually, it wasnt a gas cap problem. The code was a P0401 (Insufficient EGR flow) and it was traced back to a leaking intake manifold gasket. Thank God it's still covered by warranty! Thanks so much for your help.

it might be just a bad cap, but that's very rare. Go to an auto parts store like AUTO ZONE and have them check the code for free. Find out what it is and tell me and i'll see if I can help you out kae. Good Luck! Gonna save you some money to find out what the code is first before you spend 30 bucks on a cap from isuzu.... Think about it

Just got into the loop excited to find active rodeo fans in the net. I read some of your answers to questions/problems on rodeo trannys.

My 99 LS suddenly started slipping one night with the check trans oil and check engine lights flashing. I drove car in default mode for about 1 week. anyway, i had the tranny overhauled (overhaul kit) by a transmission mechanic, checking the resistances of sensors. the flashing lights disappeared initially but seems to flash occasionally and gear shifts abruptly. Solenoids were also replaced but abrupt shifts keeps coming back. would there be any problem with torque converter? what else could have been missed?

Any advise you can give to sort this out, I will appreciate very much.

I too have had the problem lately with my gas cap and the subsequant check engine light. Today it died on me!!! not sure what it even is yet though. happened after hours. It is very interesting to see the comment about the erg flow. I had this problem fixed about a year and a half ago already. And the funny thing is, when I dropped the truck at the isuzu dealers, I commented on the drop slip that it felt like the same problem that required the erg valve (valve?? i think) replacement. would die as you came to a stop. Only difference this time is that it wouldnt restart after it died. What i don't understand is a couple of different things:

Why would my gas cap always be loose (more than '3' clicks here and i'm sure of it)??

why would the light go off after retightening the cap??

and on another topic, why does my truck burn over a qt of oil every 800-1000 miles (sometime even more than that)??? even better how can isuzu say this is normal and acceptable behavior? so as a consumer, beyond my normal oil changes, i can expect to add another 100 to 200 quarts of oil before 100,000 miles? does any smell that, it smells like a class action suit
