2001 Tacoma Wheel Detacted in < 20MPH Accident
Hi everyone.. I'm new to this forum, so hopefully this is appropriate.
Today my mom was involved in a low peed accident (under 20MPH) where her passenger front side wheel detached from her 2001 Toytoa Tacoma.
The truck hit a parked vehicle as she was leaving her work. The front passenger side of the truck hit the back driver side of the parked vehicle which caused the truck to pop up slightly on the driver side tires but ultimatley landed (did not flip) in the process the truck ended up taking out the enter driver side of the parked car.
It just seems to me that losing the entire wheel assembly in a low speed accident such as this is very strange. Unfortunately, I am thin on details, I did see the truck and the wheel (tire, rims, etc..) was detached close to the initial impact (rear end of the parked vehicle) --- I believe the truck was going straight and given the damage to the truck, it appears to have side swiped the front end of the truck (only minimal damage to the front, most damange to the front passenger side panel above the detached wheel) I guess the questions are pretty simple: Is this common? Could this accident cause the wheel to detach (vs some assembly on the wheel being faulty and perhaps detaching before the accdient?)?
Thanks for any comments/suggestions that you may have.
