Wheel & tire upgrade for Astro.

I have a 97 Astro van, and I want to install a 15x8 wheel, along with a 60 series tire. My local good year dealership thells me that they will rub on turns. Has anyone had any experience w/this? how high can I go without rubbing or spacers? Jim

i HAD 14x8s there was no rubbing on turns, but couldn't open the slideing door without it digging into the tire.

wheel tire pkg. for astro

I have BFG 235/70-15 with lots of grip and no problems with suspension or turns. Also, they are within 1/10 of an inch of OEM diameter so no ABS or emission problems. I researched lots of sizes and called Chevy so as to not buy something that won't work. This seemed to be the best compromise overall.
Good luck.
Pete.

Re: Wheel & tire upgrade for Astro.

I've seen plenty of guys running Impala SS wheels/tires. Those are what 17x8?

A 235/60-15 should fit okay but it depends on the offset of the rim also. I think a 215/65-15 was optional for a while from the factory.

I'm new, just doing some digging to look around. BTW, I have 15x7 American Racing 767 wheels with 215/75-15 Wild Country APT's. Not huge but bigger than the stock 205's. It's just an ex-phone co. cargo van I use for work but it still has to look good, I have my reputation to protect.

Cool

I see the newer ones have 6 lug wheels, not sure when they changed that.
