The new BMW M5supermanbenz 12-09-2002, 08:17 PM Hello everyone. I'm a new member of automotiveforums. I just want to say the M5 is one of my favorite cars! (What I mean is, I wish I owned one.) By the way, does anyone know when the expected redesign of the M5 is? And how it might look? Thanks. :) Ant01 12-13-2002, 08:29 PM Yea man i Agree the m5 is an awesome car-i wouldnt mind having one myself. What sort of car do you drive at the moment. I currently am having an engine transplant done on my 528i motorsport I am having a 3.5 motor put in and it has been ported and polished the block decked, rods polished and a few other mods. It should have around 260-275 horsepower when it is finished.-does anyone know about modifying the 3.5 litre engine out of the 635csi? gemballa 01-11-2003, 10:53 PM the m5 competitors arem the audi a6 mercedes e class and jaguar s type! MaximusGTR 02-17-2003, 03:26 PM m5 is the ultimate sport Sedan, no question BLU CIVIC 02-17-2003, 03:28 PM M5...CAN ALWAYS TELL THOSE FROM ANY OTHER 5 SERIES WHEN IT PASSES BY :bloated: romabimmer 02-17-2003, 05:42 PM Originally posted by supermanbenz By the way, does anyone know when the expected redesign of the M5 is? And how it might look? Thanks. :) The New 5 comes out around September, expect the M5 about a year after that. It will have a 5.5 Liter V10 with 500bhp. The 530i will have a 240bhp I-6 and the 545i a 325bhp V8. Menu dei Motori 04-02-2003, 11:00 AM sorry i donīt know why they use a v10 maybe you can read this http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_reports/6_01_bmw.htm i can recommend it! Blitzen 04-17-2003, 09:39 AM You've probably noticed that BMW do not use any forced induction in their cars. E39 M5 - N/A, same with M3s and all the other cars. Thats why there was no other method that was feasible to make a 600hp engine (for the Mclaren F1), because at the time the car was made BMW was not in F1, and they still had their drive not use turbos etc, so they got two M3 engines fused as one (with all relevant work being done). Thats why BMW now have a V10 F1 engine in their car, too save money through economies of scale rather than designing a whole new engine. MB use forced induction, on a lot of their cars, like the S600, and thats why they have been involved in making powerful cars, done by the use of turbos :D Audi also use turbos. Competitors to BMW M5: Audi RS 6 Mercedes E55 AMG Jaguar S Type R Menu dei Motori 04-18-2003, 02:32 AM BMW will probably use turbos in the 2007 M3 the first prototypes of the normal series i see here cruising arround munich. you cannot see much. still huge carmouflage... it will probably be a V8 Turbo... these are just rumours here. i donīt know if they are true. but from good sources i heard the same... Really nice post Blitzen. other than F1 adaption, what excites me about the info. coming from BMW friends in munich is; 1. the optional 7-speed gearbox - choose between manual and SMG III. 2. the customer option to remove 250 km/h limiter if a racing license is possessed by owner. The trial for the speed limiter removal will be introduced on the M3 CSL in Q4, 2003. No more cracked EMU over rides required!! *oh yes* audi&benz 08-02-2003, 12:40 AM Someone needs to make a new poll with the RS6 instead of the S8. Now this is an engine McLarenF1GTR 08-02-2003, 01:20 AM Originally posted by audi&benz Someone needs to make a new poll with the RS6 instead of the S8. Now this is an engine also relevant to the above thread.. the RS6 engine has been heavily tagged by BMW engineers as "the compeditor" during the new M5/M6 projects.. the Merc E55 was a "poor attempt" to try and beat the E39.. but, the RS6 is very nimble on the road and clearly outstanding in a straight line at 450Bhp.. ive personally seen one smoke a modified F355 up to 155MPH.. other than F1 reasoning, its no wonder BMW engineers were compelled to raise the bar again (like the E39 did) and opted for a 9000rpm V10 in an attempt to hammer audi. but, just as i type that -- i remember Audi make the current 500Bhp 40 valve V10 powerplant in the Lamborghini Gallardo, which the new Audi RSR is going to share... its going to be interesting, but my money is on the munich boys! audi&benz 08-02-2003, 01:40 AM Originally posted by McLarenF1GTR the RS6 is very nimble on the road and clearly outstanding in a straight line at 450Bhp.. ive personally seen one smoke a modified F355 up to 155MPH.. Really? That doesnt surprise me too much because of the quattro and 450bhp but a modded F355, damn. which the new Audi RSR is going to share... What are they gonna put that V10 in? A new RS6, a RS8??? Either way i want one of those now!!! TheScientist 09-19-2003, 10:49 PM Father's on list for new M5, seriously. I think the ultimate Sports sedans are Audi S8, Mercedes S55 or S600 Sport, and M5. Audi RS6 or S6 are ok too. TheScientist 10-10-2003, 06:20 PM Oh, Also can't wait to see the new Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG come out. Ford_Man_1984 12-16-2003, 07:27 AM i just thought id let u peoplez know that theres a poll going in the holden section between the HSV and the BMW M5....i chose the BMW of course but its alittle unfair its in a holden forum... go here and open there eyes with me.... http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=3243 DinanM3_S2 03-10-2004, 12:55 AM BMW will probably use turbos in the 2007 M3 the first prototypes of the normal series i see here cruising arround munich. you cannot see much. still huge carmouflage... it will probably be a V8 Turbo... these are just rumours here. i donīt know if they are true. but from good sources i heard the same... I hope to god your kidding me. I want you to find one example of a stock BMW with forced induction of any kind, you wont, not in recent cars at least. BMW is upping to a 5.0 litre V10 for more power with natural aspiration. Besides, supercars.net recently released some specs and pics of the next generation M5 -500 hp 5.0 litre -7 speed SMG Turbo BMW my ass http://www.supercars.net/cars/2004@$BMW@$Concept%20M5g.html McLarenF1GTR 03-10-2004, 07:16 AM also heard the same story about the M3, from ex-colleagues in munchen.. hmmmm, imagine the M6 with twin turbos? Silver_M333 04-10-2004, 04:25 PM I have an '02 M3 and it is pretty darn quick. How much quicker would it be if I added a turbo or supercharger? I'm pretty sure it would be heck of a lot quicker. There are some mean supercharged and turbo charged Benz's out there. An S600 blew me away. We are talking about a luxury sedan that weighs more than 1000 lbs. more than my sports coupe. That is some serious power. The SL 55 is pretty darn quick as well (0-60 in 4.5 sec.) despite it's heft. I had a Volvo 850 Turbo that put out 222 HP with just 2.3L of displacement. The Volvo now has 180,000+ miles on it and still runs great. Would a V-10 that revs up to 9,000 really be more reliable than a forced induction V-8? Bavarian Boy M3 04-12-2004, 01:11 AM the M5 doesnt compete w/ the E Class, it competes w/ the E55 AMG though. try beating an M5 with an E320 lol. BMW will probably put turbos in their M cars and the 760Li and 760i since Mercedes added turbo aspiration to their AMGs and S600 V12. It's pretty logical if BMW adds turbos to their M fleet and their 760. Janet Reno 04-26-2004, 02:51 AM I hope they stay away from forced induction. More challenge to make the better engine. Silver_M333 04-26-2004, 08:30 PM I think this whole thing about NA engines versus foced induction is stupid. I know turbos sometimes have lag times and supercharges whine a bit. Simply having a turbo or supercharges does not make an engine a Ļbetter engineĻ. DinanM3_S2 04-26-2004, 10:27 PM There will NOT be a turbo/supercharged BMW. BMW is all about natural aspiration. Its what seperates them from everyone else. They can make competitive engines without extra aid. That is just one of the things I absolutely love about BMW and makes it great. Audi has turbo and bi-turbo, Mercedes Benz has the supercharger/kompressor, and BMW can beat both. Mercedes still doesnt come close to BMW in preformance, and its taken years for Audi to make a car as good as the M3 (2004 S4), and the M5 (RS6), and it wont be long until BMW beats them again, setting a new standard. There is a reason that McLaren used a N/A BMW V12 in the F1, its simply the best engine they can get. There are no set facts on the new M5, since it is still officially a concept, but here are some facts on the Concept M5 N/A V10 500 bhp 7 speed SMG transmission There is also supposed to be a M4 when the 3 series coupes stop production. Most rumors say it will be a 400bhp S4 killer Down with forced induction, long live BMW natural aspiration! Silver_M333 04-27-2004, 02:54 PM Look. I enjoy my naturally aspirated M3 but I see no reason to knock turbo charged and supercharged engines. Forced induction engines are technologically advanced as well. You be stubborn about it but forced induction works!!! What about when cars switched from carburators to fuel injection? People were complaining about clogged injectors and knocking. Turbos and superchargers are main stream technology. You claim that Mercedes and Audi donīt come close to BMW performance. Check the stats again. 760iL vs. S600. M5 vs. E55. Z8 vs. SL55. If you are talking about power output, Mercedes wins all three comparisons. What about M5 vs. RS6? I know that the M3 still trumps the S4 and C32 in acceleration but there is NO denying that there are worthy competitors out there. Handling is still BMWīs forte but there are other cars out there with a power advantage. Janet Reno 05-28-2004, 02:41 AM Power isn't everything. I'd rather not see BMW go into forced induction engines. SoulBladeZA 11-02-2004, 06:25 AM You claim that Mercedes and Audi donīt come close to BMW performance. Check the stats again. 760iL vs. S600. Can't really compare that to the 760Li which has a standard motor - not meant for racing as the ///M motors are. The E39 M5 is 4 years older than the E55. The E60 has more HP than the E55 so there goes that one. The M3 is faster than the C55, C32 and S4, even more so on a track. Now where does BMW get beaten? :lol2: DinanM3_S2 11-03-2004, 12:01 AM Old tread... Locked vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
