Mine was leaking last summer which created a shudder upon acceleration, so I had to: clean the housing to remover grit, rust flaking, etc... remove the cover drain the lubricant clean the cover thoroughly apply a bead of gasket maker reinstall the cover refill with lubricant (and anti-slip additive, if you have that option on your truck)Make sure that you use the proper gear oil - and gear oil additive if you have Trak-Lock, Posi-Trac or whatever Ford calls their anti-slip gear. The refill hole is on top of the differential housing. It's hard to see while you're under the vehicle, but there's a retaining bolt holding the "plug" in place. It will likely have a bunch of dirt on top of it as well. Take your time to clean it well before opening it up. It's an easy fix. Just take your time to make sure the housing is clean before you remove the cover so that there isn't a bunch of grit getting into the works. I repainted my housing cover before putting it back on, too. Helps avoid further corrosion. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
