Will this parts warranty transfer???

Alright I own a 96 Cavalier LS & the alternator is GONE on it, well instead of payin like $100 for a new one (because it's Xmas & I'm broke)... I have a friend that not even 2 months ago I helped change his alternator on his Cavalier... Well a week ago he hit a deer and it sent his airbags out and he's decided to let them total out the car like they want instead of fixing it. His alternator had a 12 month warranty on it. What I would like to know, is will that parts warranty transfer over to me? Like if I have it and 6 months from now it tears up, will they replace it for free? It came from Advanced Auto. It will still be going on a cavalier same year make and model just a red one not a blue one & I'm friends with him so he'd even take it into the store if it does tear up. I'm just wondering if I'll get that warranty, so long as we don't tell them we changed it from one car to another. Because heck I can afford $50 + $15 for alternator & new belt & my friends and I put it on more than I can afford what they want for a new one & wait for the parts store to get it in.

Re: Will this parts warranty transfer???

did they record the vin number on the car or something? cuz if not they wont even know as long as you have the original recipt of the alternator. they usualy dont record info like what car it goes into, just the part number on the part they sold so that it matches the recipt. im guessing it should be all good.

Re: Will this parts warranty transfer???

I work for advance when i am at college.... They should have his Phone # on record with the transaction in his history. If something happens between now and then, bring it in they'll test it. If it tests bad, you get a new one. No questions asked if its in that 1 yr warranty period.

We don't have anyone vin on record. Just name and telephone #. I buy a lot of parts for friends myself and get the 20% off and pass em onto friends. If they need warranty i do it myself.

Re: Will this parts warranty transfer???

They just asked his name and phone number, and I've been buying car batteries and parts under my dads name for years in there since his phone number is the one stored in the computer.
I've still not got around to fixing the cavalier yet, probably will do it after Xmas. Hoping to have a friend or something help me out (as I'm female but I know how to work on cars Dad was a mechanic but he's too ill to work on them now so I'm doing what I can) my birthday's the 29th so I just have the goal to have it fixed by then.

Thanks for the answers, at least with this part I'm getting some sort of warranty. Sometimes it's OK to go junkyards and get parts off wrecked cars, but where I have an LS... when my ignition module went out & i bought one off a 96 cavalier got it home and realized the coil packs fit it fine, but the hook ups running to the computer and spark plug areas were completely different. So after that I'm skittish about buying parts for my cavy off wrecked ones, even if I know they're good.

So I'm wondering, is there a difference in the 1996 LS 2.2L model Cavalier vs the others of that year? Or is it maybe mines more like a 95 and something changed in the middle of that year?
