Torque Convert Input Shaft retention spring

I pulled the torque converter out of the bell housing to replace the transmission output shaft seal. Inside the bell housing behind the seal on the output shaft was a circular spring steel retention clip. It was not retaining anything but is definitely there for a reason as it is shown in the dealers parts breakdown. The part number is F3402. Can anyone tell me where it is supposed to go? Does it go somewhere inside the torque converter or is it supposed to go somewhere behind the shaft seal. Also, it has a bit of a warp or bend to it so which direction does the bend go also? This is a 2001 Subaru Legacy GT with 4sp auto & 2.5L. Many thanks, Bill
