Question is a T-top installation possible??

Hey Hey good people I was hoping that somebody would be able to inform me if it is possible to install a t-top in an 83 Cutlass Supreme. I have access to the entire t-top setup out of a Buick Regal. My only real question would be, is it possible to make this installation in the cutlass without drastically weakening my car??? I have always admired t-top cars and hope to make this possible. I thank you in advance for your assistance:bandit:

i think installation is possible

i have read that its not possible but from the documents i have seen about factory t-tops i would think it is. I read taht since the top wouldn't be as strong they had to reinforce the undercarraige of the car. So theoretically if you reinforce the underside of the car with some steel rails it should be possible. I'm gonna try it this summer in my 87 cutlass supreme so i'm hoping my ideas are right. hope i could be some help

your car is not unibody. so it has a separate frame from the body. you cannot weaken the frame by cutting into the body. put it in!

Re: is a T-top installation possible??

Back in the '80s, some t-top cars were actually made from hard tops at the dealership! (factory t-tops were made by Fisher Body....dealer installed ones were made by C&C).
So....is it possable? Yell yes! Is it easy? Hell NO! It requires a BUNCH of measuring (measure twice, cut once) and isn't a job for someone who isn't a professional body man.
From a $$$ standpoint, it's probably a better idea to just buy a t-top car.......
.....but technicly, you CAN have the t-top roof grafted onto your existing car.

.....for a price......LOL

Re: is a T-top installation possible??

Yes, it can be done. I've seen it with my own eyes. I was in a junkyard looking for parts when I came across a Cutlass with t-tops. I immediatly checked the condition of the tops, gaskets, trim, etc, because my brother is restoring a t-top monte carlo. I quicly noticed something wasnt right. The tops didnt look like stock GM tops, nor did the interior trim around the tops. After pulling off some trim I realized that this was some sort of after market "t-top kit" similar to an aftermarket sunroof. It was quite obvious that someone cut the roof and installed thses tops. I later noticed a sticker in the doorjamb stating that the car had bee physically altered, and that it was done by a certified shop. I guess it needed that sticker to pass inspections or something like that. Anyways... that was the one and only aftermarket t-top car I have ever seen, so I know it can be done.

I am looking to install t-tops on my 83 Cutlass also I just bought the t-tops on ebay. Hopefully they are in as good a shape as they look. I was wondering if anyone has actually done this yet, or maybe know of a sight that has the instruction on it? I see them for the trans am and camero but not the cutlass yet. Any tip or leads would be greatly appreatiated.
