2002 Tracker, 4 cyl known as a dud?

Can anyone tell me if the 4cyl in a tracker is the same engine used in grand ams? I know a grand am is a pontiac but they are all GM's people. Are there any known severe issues with these trucks?

TTT

good\bad\ugly? Nothing?

I think I found out it's not the 4cyl from the grand ams as they used a 2.2l not a 2.0l. Any known major issues with these things?

The 4 cylinder in the Tracker is made by Suzuki, not GM. My 2000 Tracker with the 4 cylinder has been very reliable, no problems, just underpowered for the vehicle.

before I bought my '97 tracker lsi 4x4, i found out there are 2 different 4 cylinder engines - 1 is made by gm, the other one is the 16 valve and that's a suzuki motor - don't know if this also applies to your '02 model. bought mine in Oct. '07, 80k miles ran great for 2 months, now service engine light won't go off, blue smoke galore out of exhaust and today found a milky white substance on dip stick. when i researched these before i bought mine, everyone said that they're great vehicles, especially with the suzuki motor and run forever, and I previously had 2 geo storms that I couldn't kill, the body went and engine was still going. good luck to you.
mine is going in garage tomorrow, hopefully it's nothing serious.

Re: 2002 Tracker, 4 cyl known as a dud?

I have a 2002 2L inline 4, with 130K, my Mom has a 2000, same motor, that my bro bought new. Both are Suzies in Chevy trim, with Suzi drive trains. No problems to speak of at all, I love this little 2wd SUV. I put 100 miles a day on going to work at 29 MPG. When this one is over 1,000,000 miles and won't run anymore I'll probably go with another Suzuki.
