If you done it by the good book it should have been right and should work.
You missed on one or two cylinders or a lifter was collasped or a valve is stuck.
But another way to do it is to adjust the valves one cylinder at a time by rotating engine when the opposite firing cylinder is at TDC compression stroke.
Or you can start engine and adjust them with engine running.
Very messie job that way.
