Help Quick Please

My wife has a Voltzwagen Beetle that she loves. It is a 2002 or higher model, sorry not sure, anyway, she is now having a problem with getting out of park. It is as though some sensor in not showing she is pushing on her brake to engange the release of the gear shifter. Any help would be thankful. It is a gas engine and is an automatic. Do I have to take it to a dealership or can I get away with doing this myself. Please help!!!

Re: Help Quick Please

That has to be a faulty brake light sensor switch located up top of the brake pedal. Brake pedal must be depressed to allow gear selector to go out of PARK as a safety item! It was a recall in most countries so check with your dealer. (not Australia where I live). They only cost under $AU30 if you can get one...reasonably simple to replace. Good Luck.
