I got a 2002 Beetle Turbo S about a month ago; now while driving the red emergency BRAKE light occassionally blinks and chimes three times, then goes off for a while before doing it again? The brakes seem to work fine. I just got the brakes checked less than a week ago. This happened once before the brakes were checked which makes me believe it's nothing that happened then. Any ideas?

Sometimes a small coin or hairclip or whatever can get stuck under the handbrake lever preventing it from fully returning - pull the handbrake on and try and look under the handle with a torch. Good Luck.

Thanks....I'll go check and see if that could be the problem.....that would be great if it were so simple as something like that....i'll let you know

Sorry to get in late on this one, but perhaps it can help someone else. I just had the same problem with mine. According to the owners manual, this means that it has low brake fluid. I added some brake fluid to mine and that took care of the problem for me. Good luck!
