85 Camry Problems... No Spark!

OK. so this is the situation: i own a 85 camry. recently replaced a head gasket on it along with various other gaskets. i put the belts back on and hooked up all the hoses and wires. there was a problem starting it up. i got a different distributor, cap, spark plugs. the ignition module is fine. the coil was replaced with the other distributor. the wires are all ok. they are all getting juice. but there's no spark. everything turns. everything is timed and aligned. there's just no spark. the distributor is getting juice. the cap looks fine. the wires are in great shape. the vacuum lines are all hooked up. if anyone has any advice or has been through this maybe before, id appreciate any input.

coil was replaced. however, many of us here have learned new parts aren't good parts, hope you kept receipts.

or you may have installed something incorrectly. since you know the distributor is getting power, you dont have to check too many things. is the distributor putting out any power?

if you have confidence in your work, you might want to go get another coil.

Re: 85 Camry Problems... No Spark!

In addition to the resistance measurements recommended in the Autozone link, the coil may still be bad because of a breakdown of the insulator at high potentials. The resistance measurement is made at 9 volts or so (the battery power in the volt-ohm meter). It is very possible that the operating voltages of the coil (in kV) cause a breakdown where the 9V of the meter doesn't. Also, the problem may occur more easily at normal engine operating temperatures (which is pretty hot at the point the distributor is mounted on the head).

The point is that the coil may be bad no matter what the resistance measurement says.
