Timing belt idler bearing

I'd like to replace the two idler pulleys while doing my timing belt. They don't feel real bad but I didn't replace the idler on my Honda and it went out shortly after replacing the timing belt. Has anyone replaced just the bearing inside the pulley? I'm not able to cross the bearing #'s. The only thing that comes up in a search is this site:

http://www.datazap.net/sites/Austral..._Pump_rev2.pdf

ONe pulley has NTN bearing while the other has a nsk bearing. I'm going to the bearing house on Monday to see if they can cross it. The reasons for doing it this way is there are no replacement pulleys immediately available and when ordered, they are expensive. >$100 for both. I think I could replace the bearings for under $30, but I'll see. If I have any luck, I'll post the bearing numbers and It'll be a good thing to add to the FAQs.

Re: Timing belt idler bearing

I'm sure that if you go to a bearing supplier, they can find replacements.

Re: Timing belt idler bearing

Ok, for future reference, here is what I got.

Left, or drivers side idler pulley bearing is Federal Mogul 5016-WCC

Right side idler pulley bearing is Timkin/Fafnir 9106PP

Both bearings were $35 each locally, so cost was close to half of ordering the idler pulleys from O'Reilly auto. You'll also need to have some sort of press to R&R.

Re: Timing belt idler bearing

I just bought the ribbed idler for the fan belt today. Its only $16 and the stock bearing doesn't look like it can be pressed out for replacement anyway. Only thing I don't like is it looks like it has a cheapo chinese bearing even though the pulley says made in USA

Tom.

i believe serpentine belt idlers are of lower quality anyway when compared with timing belt idlers. thats why timing idlers are so much more expensive! anybody got any input on the subject? mike
