88 Blazer wont go over 15MPH

Hello I just bought a 1988 K5 Blazer. It starts and sounds fine but when in drive it will not go over 15mph. I am not a mechanic and this is sort of a learning prject for me as I go anyone ran into this before or any ideas where I should start?

Thanks in advance I am sure I will be here a lot more learning and sharing what I have learned

Re: 88 Blazer wont go over 15MPH

is it not shifting and thats why it wont go over 15 or is the engine not acting like it has enough power to go over 15? and if its exactly 15 and it stops dead or just dies out like a govner on a go kart then it might be comp controled maybe, if u have TBI my 87 does

Re: 88 Blazer wont go over 15MPH

When I replaced the Transmission on my 79 Jimmy, I forgot to put the transfer case back into 2-Hi, and it was jammed in 4-lo and I freaked out because it would not go over 30. If you have a four wheel drive, it could be your t-case is in 4-lo, or somewhere between Neutral and a gear. Just something to check. Is the truck revving really high? Or is it bogging out?
