Are you sure there is a resistor? Some vehicles are wired such that the headlights are in series instead of using a resistor for DRLs.

I just completed a project where I wired my 95 LeSabre Custom for DRLs and other headlamp effects, and after attempting to find a way to cause the DRLs to only be activated while the car was in gear (Reverse or any Drive), I found that there was no easy way. So, my DRLs run when the ignition is on, regardless of the shift lever position. Here is my post to this effect:

Putting on the parking brake, when in Park, shut the DRLs off in my 95 Buick Regal. May be the same for the LeSabre.
