Re: Truck wont start at times

I'm having similar problem and trying to find a solution. So far I've come up with the likelyhood that this is the passive anti-theft acting up. I use the original key, and currently can;t find my spare, but the truck would at first simply shut down. Anywhere, anytime, no pattern. No codes left for the mechanic either - and once a SERVICE ENGINE SOON light came on and I got a 'LEAN ON ONE SIDE' code.

But when the key is inserted and turned to the "ON" position, the THEFT light stays on for three seconds. If the THEFT light goes out, the truck will start. If the THEFT light starts blinking, the truck won't start. The key send codes to an internal antenna inside the key switch for verification of a correctly coded key on insertion. As the original key this should be sending correct codes, but still, I can;t rely on this truck till I find the problem. And after shutting down out on the road, it has been starting right back up until the other day. I wound up getting it towed home, but at least with the situation at hand, I was able to verify in fact that during a "no-start" condition, the anti-theft is always blinking.

I'm gonna try my spare key before I do anything else. As I said, the key sends various codes programmed into it back to the ignition switch. If the switch reads a correct code, it will allow the truck to start. Now to keep it running may be a totally seperate problem!

Let me know if you come up with anything.
