77 6.6 liter 400ci faq ect

ok so im quite new to the whole older vehicle things and well "american muscle" if you will. im naturally a honda guy at heart but im gonna be buying a 75 ford pickup with a 400 ci big block outta a 77 pickup im assuming a f150 or 250. any how i need to know if the valve train is truly weak or not. some jack-hole is talkin some trash and telling me the valve train was prone to droping valves into the cylinders and ruing the motors. and basicly any kidna true con about this motor that anyone could lend me in this.

Re: 77 6.6 liter 400ci faq ect

I am not a fan of the 400, huge gas hog and little power, but I did run one for over 200k miles and never dropped a valve. you have to take things with the grain of salt, I suppose this guy who told you this is a chevy guy. People are very loyal between dodge chevy and ford and if somebody knows one person that dropped a valve in a 400 he will tell many people that they have a big problem with that. If you plan on spending any money on the truck to muscle it up, my opinion would be to swap out to a 429 or 460. You will get the same economy and alot more power. I have a 460 in a 76 f250 and it is strong. I am looking at putting in an edelbrock power package for about $2k and it will pump it to 502 hp. Anyway don't wory too much about what he said, any and every motor out there has dropped a valve before. Just take care of it and it will take care of you.

well hes a kidna all over the place. nasty foxy body mustang gay caprice classic. subaru, burban. but hoenstly the 400 vs the 390 that was in there will do fine. plus im gonna swap the intake, carb and exhaust out and probably cam with new valve components. plus im gonna rebuild the rear end from the 3.25 gears to 3.50 or 3.71's
