I just bought an 85 yota on gas and propane, high clicks but seems to work good except for this strange missing on hills or acceleration.
SOunds like the engine is farting and then it loses speed :shakehead

Hey, I'm "like" on my 2nd "Bad as Old" Toy truck.
My First was an 85 2WD w/ 4 on the floor. I got it with 70k on the odo. and it made it up to 230k hard driven miles (including 2 salvage titles) before it burned a valve in the #3 cylinder. The guy I sold it to popped another motor in it and it was good to go as his new work truck...I still see it occasionally running around town.

I currently have a 91 2wd manual that has 184k on the odo, and it runs better than a motor half it's age! No burning oil, still putting out geat torque for a stock motor. The only thing wrong is that it suffered from that worn bushing problem in the shifter that makes it pop out of gear. I delayed in making the repair, and well...3rd gear is pretty much shot. I'll be replacing the clutch soon, and I'll probably take the opportunity to crack open the case and make the repairs while it's off the truck.

I've been a mechanic in the field on & off for over 10 years in the LA area, and I can honestly say that these little pickups are probably second only to their sibling Tercels in their capacity to take abuse and keep rolling on!

Man if I had a pic of this thing yall would probably cringe
time to get descriptive, first off its in hawaii, the salty air capital so toys rust fast area.
I own an 88 yota 4x4 pickup. Bodys got rust holes all over it. Got bondo and sandpaper scuffs all over the thing. Painted everything blue on the body. Mounting point to frame under the the drivers seat rotted away, dood before me used sum foam thing to try to keep it in place. oh yeah its got 195,315 miles under it. The cab naturally sags over to the left if your the driver. Driver door sags downward when open, trick to close it is to pull it upward, keep your hands openeing the door handle and slam the thing in as hard as u can, works like a charm. Windows don't roll up, cuz u know the part where u hang your arm on when your driving. The window guides around there are like rusted off, so the window gets stuck trying to get it up, so I get a lot of rain in the cab. I have a nice view of the road, looking downward, from all the rust holes in the cab while im driving. Good heat coming from the tranny or the engine while driving, I like to have sum rubber slippers under the heel of my right foot, cuz it gets extremely hot there, stepping off the gas and stepping on brake and then going back and forth. I never know how much gas I have cuz the thing always reads empty. The other day, my plastic bedliner ripped right off the bolts I had and did a 360 over a dodge following me. oh yeah gotta love the shotgun volume backfires it loves to do on its own. Recently I am having clutch problems, I have posted my own thread for sum help for this though. This is all in the past two days. LOL
I REALLLLLY LOVE IT THOUGH, it is the best truck I ever owned. The engine yanks like a pitbull, its a fucking beast, BEfore I started having clutch issues. I really don't mind the backfires, I love seeing everyone ducking. I almost made sum dood riding a bicycle crash into sum bushes upon shifting from 3-4 gear today, it wuz hella funny. On the beach, the toy is the ultimate, it stands tall, roars loud, and the bed holds lots of beer!. Newayz, I will always love yotas, ppppaaaayyyyycee from the 808

hey blue bags ! you have my truck ! or its twin ?!

horrible huge area of missing sheetmetal under my ext cab area and my rockers(lack of rockers i mean)

88 2wd extracab pickup 22RE, A43D trans, and 3.89 7.5" axle
completely totally rusted out cab except for floor pans,

has no bed, just some plywood laid down as a platform, the bed was ate out so i junked it,
the original taillights are baling wired to a steel pole i have welded on to the frame rails for a bumper

133k all original miles, rear brake wheel cylinde ris blown i just keep adding fluid to it every few days, no exhaust at all except the cat convers and before it

it would totally fail an inspection test, but hey they dont havre them here so yay

i jut finished timing chain replacement the other daym it leaks some oil now but i dont car,e as it runs and drives again

it has a heater and a steering wheel and it goes and it stops and its ok on gas, the rust out missing rockers and such just adds to its beauty :D
good enough! its paid itself off, it owes me nothing, its cheaper to fix it and drive it than to replace it,
i will drive it til the cab falls off, literally :D

they salt the roads here, every winter all winter long, tons of it, way too much,

not many older vehicles here, all are rusted junk, the few that survived anyways, most all have been taken to shredder

good luck

Just bought a 1987 Toyota 4x4 short-bed pickup, manual tranny, bored .30 over I believe =o. And it just turned 113k miles. Drives, shifts and does everything real smooth. Its sweet. Hasn't been mudded or raised at all. But it has some custom rims/tires that make it look pretty savage. I just started liking they toyota trucks. I need a new passenger side front corner bumper. Hrmm.. think I'll go pull one off a truck at the junk yard tomorrow.

I guess these things run forever, I'm stoked. Its my first manual tranny vehicle. Drove it around all day long ahaha. Thinkin about beefin the engine up a little to put out a little more torque... Any suggestions?
