idle air control

can someone tell me how to clean idle air control, i have it off the throttle body, am i supposed to take spring out or just spray cleaner on it

Do not disassemble it, clean the shaft and the pintle, with throttle body cleaner.

This is an externally "cleaned" but still non-functioning IAC:




This is what it looks like on the pintle rack AFTER it was "cleaned" externally. Notice the carbon and varnish:




This is what it looks like after cleaning but with the spring not yet re-tensioned:



This is a fully cleaned IAC, with the spring correctly re-tensioned, and just before the light lubricant on the pintle rack gear:




Before installing it, clean the air passage in the TB where the IAC was mounted. Be certain to retract the pintle fully against the spring to prevent damage upon installation.

Of course, the previously "dead" IAC (sluggish action) worked fine after disassembly and cleaning.
