98 grand am coil problems

i have a 98 grand am awhile ago my check engine light came on and hade it checked said multibale cyl. missfire. was driven down the road and then my gas pedal quit working car was still running but no throttle at all puled over and stoped started to go aging then the car shifted in to 2nd its an atomatic and trottle quit again took it to a machenic said he replace the coil it worked fine for a week then started to do it again what is causing this? is there something taht is making the coil go bad or what please help

Welcome to AF.

Depending on what engine you have more then 1 coil.
4 cyl has two, v6 three coils, so if only one was replaced then thiers others that could go bad.

The Ignition control module(ICM) controls the coils.
