How do You get code???

I have 02 trailblazer ext and i have a feeling i need to fix something, iv dropped so much money on this thing... the service engine light has been on for awhile, how do i obtain a code?

i also have this noise (new) coming from the steering column.. like a ticking noise, i have alrdy been told to replace the fan clutch.. but i havent should i?

You need a code reader/scanner, Autozone will do this free in most states. If the noise changes with rpms, in neutral, it usaully is the tach in the cluster.
