2003 grand am with cherry bombroll2daspot 09-24-2007, 08:56 PM I have a grand am and I am thinking about putting a cherry bomb muffler on it, is it gonna make my car alot louder? Will it sound nice? I have the 3.4l v6 and would like to know if anyone has done this before. Jmoney3318 09-24-2007, 10:55 PM cherry bomb wont make it louder, will just muffle it, you want loud remove resonator and cat, but itll sound raspy and assy.... just go flowmaster 80 series xeroinfinity 09-24-2007, 11:55 PM I have seen someone with a cherrybomb in place of the resonator and then no muffler in back just pipes.... :thumbsdow It didnt sound very good... IMO. Even the Flomaster will sound a little raspy at high Rmps. Thiers a short video in the OT thread of my GT, it only has the resonator removed and a flomaster in the back, sounds pretty good. Better then Stock !! Vipey1337 09-25-2007, 06:39 PM I have seen someone with a cherrybomb in place of the resonator and then no muffler in back just pipes.... :thumbsdow It didnt sound very good... Better then Stock !! I also have some vids on youtube of mine with resonator removed and flowmaster 80... very low, deep, evil sound to it... i set off car alarms in parking garages  do that imo :) Gir-_- 09-25-2007, 11:33 PM i had something like a cherry bomb on my car.... you would need the straight pipe one and someone to weld it cause clamps will eventually let it sag.... I replaced my resonator with a straight pipe holley glasspack cherrybomb like muffler... right after the cat, and left all of the exit piping and cut off my stock muffler.... it got louder over time, but in the end it wasnt worth the hassle mainly because mine kept sagging, I kept fixing it... and eventually it fell out sorta 'against the grain' but in this case the road... good thing I stopped only a few feet in a parking lot... I had a buddy of mine bring a saw and we cut up my stock piping to remove it all.... best advice I could give is that it's not worth the time or effort for 'just' a cherry bomb glasspack... even on a v6 :p Like the others, your best bet would be a flowmaster 80 series, you can buy them on ebay for about $100 ish, and most shops average a cat-back exhaust using ur flowmaster around $240 pros of it, it's professional!, clean (if done right), and the sound is just right search youtube for 'grand am flowmaster 80' and you'll prob get a good few sound clips/videos roll2daspot 09-28-2007, 09:21 PM ok thanks guys im gonna check out that flowmaster, I know that will sound nicer then a cherrybomb, but will it make my car sound louder and more agressive? Also if I get an intake too that will help with a little bit of power and add to the sound will it not? Gir-_- 09-28-2007, 10:01 PM yea with any cone style sort of intake available for your car and a free'd up exhaust.. it'll have that more aggressive growl easiest place to purchase a decent cold air intake is on ebay.. I think Chromeintakes is the dealer that has em for our grand am's... Xero has one of theirs on his Grand AM GT I do believe, along with a 80 series setup... flowmaster 80 series on ebay, if you're lucky is about $100-ish plus shipping the intake I think from chromeintakes is around $70-80 :dunno: installing the intake takes little effort, if you know what you're doing and/or are handy with tools and socket wrenches, I installed mine in about an hour but I was messin around  The 80 series install will prob cost you $230-260 depending where you get it installed at.. as a cat-back pipe. Ill say this about installing the custom cat-back piping, GOTO SOMEWHERE THEY DO GOOD MANDREL PIPE OR A WELL KNOWN MUFFLER SHOP!!! ... some people just cant seem to get it over our axel under the car.. its a weird up and turn sorta thing.... 2.5" or more piping is a must... with BOTH, the intake and custom cat-back... you'll notice some low-end torque gain as well a slightly better high end power gain... If you REALLY wanna get crazy with mods, www.pfyc.com under grand am section... any questions about the site either ask them or ask away in our off topic thread... we'll help ya out  roll2daspot 09-28-2007, 10:29 PM yea with any cone style sort of intake available for your car and a free'd up exhaust.. it'll have that more aggressive growl easiest place to purchase a decent cold air intake is on ebay.. The place I work at is the shop for a construction company, I could bring my car into the shop at work and have access to all their tools and things like that, everyone there knows their shit im sure they would help me work on my car. I really want to start doing things to my grand am now more then ever. xeroinfinity 09-29-2007, 12:17 AM Speaking on the raspy sound... I noticed the GT with single duals is more ricey sounding then the SE With dual tips... ..... maybe it is the headers that make it sound butter. :dunno: Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
