High Idle on 97 Grand Am

I have a 97 Grand Am with 97,000 miles with a 3.1L V6 and I am sometimes experiencing a high Idle in gear and not in gear, it will go from about 800rpms up to 2500 rpms and slowly come back down to normal it will do this several times, I have had it at the GM garage and they tell me that everything looks good and cant find no codes on the computer, I have thought about replacing the temp. sending unit and thermostat thinking that this might have somthing to do with it running the high rmp`s, and trying to serculate more water through the motor and cool it self off or am I looking in the wrong area, I am curious to see if anybody else has had this problem on there Grand Am`s Thanks.

Re: High Idle on 97 Grand Am

Welcome to AF but please stop bringing back super old thread. As you can see he asked the question over 2 years ago then never came back. Start a new thread and our current members will try and help you.
