Wondering about putting a manual trans in my 99 Grand AM SE. I got the 2.4L Auto but would like to put a 5 speed in it I was told that the 2000-2004 had the 5 speed but anybody now how hard it would be to change it out.

Re: transmission upgrade

Not worth it !

You'll need alot of parts swapped, thier should already be the mount on the firewall under the dash for the clutch pedal , thats a plus !

Other then that the mounts are different, you'll need you PCM reprogramed for a manual, clutch fluid resivoir and hoses ran.... not a fun or easy job.

Check out the "Tips & Maintenance" sub forum, thiers a parts list for these models and it'll show what the differences are, with part #'s.

Good Luck and Welcome to AF.
