94 VW Golf Shutting off

I have just recently bought a 94 vw golf. The problem im having is that while driving no matter distance or speed it shuts off. Sometimes i can start it right back up while moving and sometimes i cant. When it starts up it runs as if theres no problems. Anyone have and ideas what could be wrong?

Re: 94 VW Golf Shutting off

If the car is running fine and then just stops for no real reason, it is usually an electrical fault. I had the same problem on my Volvo 360 GLT years ago when going around tight right hand corners, the car would stop or nearly stop.

Check all the body earths and look for loose/corroded earth wires.

Re: 94 VW Golf Shutting off

Had the same problem with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was the crankshaft position sensor. If it doesn't read the crank turning, it doesn't fire the ignition and the car dies, but may start right up and run with no issue, until it happens again. Maybe same problem?

Re: 94 VW Golf Shutting off

I also have the same problem, car shutting off at any time, losing all electrical for anywhere from 3 seconds to a couple of minutes.

I found that my alarm control module is shutting my car off. I'm not sure if it is in the alarm system or the electrical to my ignition switch (which I have already replaced.) I'm gonna replace the alarm module and I'll let you know if that solved the problem. Oh, and I have already ordered the crank position sensor and will replace it also.

I had an electronics guy look at the circuit card in the alarm control module. there was a crack in the solder that holds the solenoid allowing the car to start when the alarm is off. Been starting and driving the car all day with no issues at all. Hope this helps.
