-Pre-94 (old boxy style)
-must be 5-speed
-must be ext. cab
-the more options the better
-prefer 2WD
-mileage is more important that age... a 60k mile 1985 is just as good as a 60k mile 1993
I'm not picky about engine, L4, V6, V8. It will eventually be an LT1. One thing is important! It may be a year or more until I get around to the mechanical work on the customizing, so whatever I buy will have to have at least 20,000 good driving miles left in it. I don't mind a brake job or exhaust, but lets not have any cracked blocks, oil burners, or spun bearings.
As far as budget... I think $2000 should buy me a 90-93 like I described with 60-100k miles depending on options and condition. (that number is mostly what NADA says I should expect to pay for the truck I described) I actually have about $3000 in the budget to spend on a truck. It will also greatly depend on which engine it has. An L4 better be pretty cherry and loaded for $2000, but I'll crank my own windows if it has a V6 or V8 :sun:
Ebay is a good source for many vehicles, but when I want something specific it can disappoint sometimes. I always insist on visually inspecting vehicles before buying on Ebay, so I have to narrow my search to a hundred miles or so.
I am a total Ebay junkie, though. If I have $1000 to blow, I love going in and searching for cars between $0 and $500 in my area and picking my favorite rust bucket. Often I'll bid on them just to see if I get them. I've picked up some real junk that way, but it also got me a really sweet 73 AMC Hornet Sportabout wagon with 7000 original miles for $1500.
Sorry about my username. I tried different names for a good 10 minutes before becoming aggravated at the site. Oh well.

you could check the wrecking yards. I have a friend at a local yard
that told me they get those in all the time.
I bought my 85 blazer there with only a bad gear box.
It's loaded and I got it for $1100. (a few years ago)
I could have found a cheaper one, but in denver, 2wd blazers are almost
nonexistant.
It now runs on an LT-1 It's a whole lot of fun!
