02 Corolla w/ a factory CD player?????

Hi Guys,

Just purchased an 02 Corolla LE with 51k. The car is fully loaded but only has a cassette player... and no CD player Does anyone know if a factory CD player was an option in 2002, and if so, where could I get one. Or, how simple is it to replace the entire stereo unit with an after-market unit in these cars. I replaced the cassette stereo in my '94 Camry w/o too much trouble. I don't get my new ride until Thursday and hope to have some answers to this perplexing question by then.

Thanks,
Jackie

Re: 02 Corolla w/ a factory CD player?????

I have a 2001 Corolla LE with a factory CD player, so I'm pretty sure it was available on the 2002 model. Not sure where you would track down a factory CD player other than eBay or your local auto wrecker. But they do exist.

Re: 02 Corolla w/ a factory CD player?????

Thanks for your response g railed....

I looked in the owners manual for a picture of the CD player, and only got the one that is just a CD player. My stereo is a cassette player, radio, and buttons for controling a CD player. I kept thinking it was hiding somewhere! LOL! I just don't understand this setup. Is yours "just" a CD player, or a cassette AND CD player?

Thanks so much!
Jackie

Re: 02 Corolla w/ a factory CD player?????

I just found several on eBay. Evidently, this year Corolla uses what they call a "Slave Unit?" It is just the mechanics of a CD player that is installed in the car, but where????? Does it fit somehow in the dash? Anyone have a picture of this setup, or even a website where I can see the slave unit installed????

Thanks.
Jackie

Re: 02 Corolla w/ a factory CD player?????

The Cd player that I have is the single disc player mounted where your cassette deck is.

I'm not too sure how the slave would work. I would imagine that the slave may be mounted in the trunk of the car, and somehow wired to the cassette player. From what i can tell from a quick Google search there is a connection for the changer on the back of your cassette player for the slave.

You may have to get a repair manual from a car part store for wiring diagrams, or maybe a local library. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Re: 02 Corolla w/ a factory CD player?????

Thanks for your help g railed. Leave it to me to buy an oddball car w/o a CD player. LOL! I wish I had been able to come up with more money to get a 2003. There seems to be a ton of CD players on eBay to fit the 03's and up. I'll keep looking!

Thanks again!

Re: 02 Corolla w/ a factory CD player?????

Jackie, I had purchased an 02 LE which does have both the stereo cassette combo which is located just below the digital clock, and the slave CD player which is located just above the cupholders which pop out for the driver and passenger. It sounds to me like somebody has done to your car what I have done to mine which is the following.
Since I was having problems with my slave CD player and also wanted to upgrade the stereo system. I decided to buy a compartment from a salvage yard for an 02 CE model and install it where the slave CD player was located. It was a perfect fit no modifications needed.

I'll bet you're right Scooter! This Corolla does have a compartment with a door just above the cup holders. HHHmmmm...Trouble with your slave unit... guess I'll be upgrading the cassette to a CD player as you did next summer.

Thanks!
Jackie
