1993 Lumina 3.1 issues

I have a 93 lumina that will try to start and sometimes actually start but as soon as you give it gas it shuts off. I jumped from the a to b connector on the OBD plug and if I am doing it right, the check engine light blinks 6 times with no pauses. I really don't know whats wrong with it, it is getting plenty of fuel. It is the 3.1 liter engine. If you need anymore information let me know. Feel free to call me, the sooner the better. Thanks, Kyle

Re: 1993 Lumina 3.1 issues

WHen put in diagnostic mode (ignition key in on/run position, engine off, jumper between ALDL's A and B terminals) the CEL should blink once-twice--once-twice--once-twice--(the dashes being pauses between flashes). This is a code 12 (no ignition reference pulses) and is always the first code presented. Each stored code should follow in numeric order, until a longer pause and the codes will repeat (starting with 12 again) as long as the ignition is left on and the jumper wire installed. Re-attempt code retrieval and post what you find.

Re: 1993 Lumina 3.1 issues

Alright so this time I bought a reader which I am going to take back. Basically you are buying a book with codes. Anyways, when I put the wire in or use the reader which does the same thing in, and turn the ignition on the 'service engine soon' light just comes on and stays on. No blinks or anything.

Any ideas as to where to start looking for problems would be great. Thanks, Kyle

Re: 1993 Lumina 3.1 issues

When you jump the wire from terminal a to b then turn the ignition to on the service engine light does nothing but stays lit. It does this without the terminals jumped. Could this be a bad ECM? Where is the ECM on the luminas? Thanks... Any help is greatly appreciated!
