Satallite Radio Receiver?!?!
Hey all,
I recently picked up my new fully loaded 4 door coupe with Navigation and frigging love it!
Here is my question...
My Clarion Bose Radio that came with the car is wired up for satallite radio.. It even has a button on the radio for SAT. In my manual it goes over all the controls for the SAT radio. When I asked the dealer if I could get it hooked up, they said it's not available yet, that Infiniti does not know who they are going to sign with (Sirrus or XM). Through further research, I found that if Clarion is the maker of the head unit it the car (radio) then you have NO choice but to go with Cirrus because they are the only Satellite provider that will work with that radio. If they use XM they have to do a FM modulation way which you loose sound quality and you have to add a stupid looking piece to your radio. I called Cirrus, and they gave me a part number of a receiver that would plug right into the back, but EVERY after market place I went to said that it would not work or were afraid to try without knowing first.
HAS ANYONE GOT SATALLITE RADIO TO WORK WITHOUT HAVING TO USE A FM MODULATION ADAPTER!?!
By the way the part number for the receiver was Clarion DSH920S.
Any info would be GREATLY appreciated...

I am not going to give on this. I am sure there has to be atleast ONE other G35 owner that either has had Sat radio installed or wants too.
The latest I heard, is that they (Infiniti) was not happy with the look of the antenna and that is what the delay is.
Anyone else hear anything?

Do a search on g35driver.com or freshalloy.com
Some guy managed to get his hands on the parts and the install manual for the kit that Infiniti was going to install. He hooked it up and it worked. The antenna was butt ugly though, and looked like a little bubble on the car. I'd NEVER put that on my coupe just because it looks so out of place.
I don't remember the details, but somebody's done it, and it used the factory SAT button. AFAIK, this guy had inside connections, because I don't think anyone else has been able to get the dealerships to sell them the appropriate parts.
See what you can find at those sites. I read it somewhere.

glad i found someone else that shares this concern.. there's no way i'm doing fm modulation and there's something about having a "SAT" button that doesn't do anything that I really don't like.. please post your findings and i'll do the same. thanks!

I was told by my local dealer that Nissan is in the process of testing which Satellite tuner is more popular. Currently in the 03 Pathfinder they have supplied half of them with Sirrus and half with XM, the sales numbers are going to be the one that determines which one Nissan/Infiniti goes with for the entire line of automobiles.

Hi, everybody, I'm going to be a lot of help here!!
My boyfriend has a Maxima, and I got him sattelite radio for X-mas. He loves it more than anything. He has XM btw.
We got this setup: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=32816
It adapts throught the cassette player and sounds fine. FM modulator adapter is also available. The wire for the antenna goes down the side of the center console, around the edge of the rug, up the rear seat, down the seat seam (tucked in where the belts are) and through the trunk pass-through, and onto the trunk lid. You can't even see the wire and it magnets right onto the trunk.
Sound quality has been good, there are channels for everything, more than a hundred of them. We listen to the comedy channels a lot, they are hilarious, sometimes the alternative channels, and once he was driving his grandma home from the airport so he put it on 1940's music the whole way. She LOVED it, as she was hearing all the songs she and her late husband danced to when they were first dating.
I bought my setup off eBay and was delighted with it.
BTW, CONGRATS on the G35 purchases. Someday...someday... Oh, well, I love my G20 for now..and for what it's worth, if Nissan makes the G35 like they made my exSentra, look forward to 186,000+ happy miles, before you total it into a Chrysler.

Dealer told me that the Satellite receivers will be available in March, but is not sure which one it will be (XM or Sirrus--see previous post). The problem with the Biongo82 system is that it requires an external wired remote, which IMO really makes the system look cheap and cheesy, when you could wait a month and have a totally integrated system. Wait till March and then you'll be set, however I do believe it is going to be a lot more expensive then you would pay for an aftermarket setup.

Fair enough, but the antenna doesn't look horrid, and I doubt Nissan will do anything integrated for the 1999 Max owners. And yes, you get 'cheap and cheesy' looks but it most likely is cheaper than an integrated system. Altogether we paid $180 plus $10 monthly for programming.
Also you may consider getting an aftermarket headunit that is sattellite-ready. I have the Kenwood MPV7019, which is Sirius-ready (though I don't have Sirius) but the cool part is it plays mp3 CDs, so I keep only 4 discs in my car with a total of about 50 hours of music.

Unfortuanely there is no way to add an aftermarket receiver with the G35, without make it really look like crap, and for me I rather keep my G35 looking like the car that it is, and spend the extra money for an integrated system.

Oh, good point. I'm stuck back in the early nineties with their standard-DIN slots. Good luck to you and congrats on the G.

actually the dealer told me they had signed on with sirius then something happened w/ the relationship and decided not to ship. if you ask the dealer right now they will tell you that you have to buy a 3rd party ssytem and use an FM modulator. being as they have a "SAT" button on the radio its obvious they weren't really looking ahead, but more that something went wrong.
however, if you look at that kit it gives you the part numbers you need to order it from nissan. i'll try to follow up to find out if you can still order or not.
