Starter or worse??
Yesterday, I drove a couple different places in my 99 Silverado Z-71. It was a beutiful day until I tried to leave my fav. lunch hangout. I walked out, turned the key.....and nothing. Not a click, bang, or anything. The lights seem bright and all the electronics work just fine. The battery gauge shows about 12 so that seems just fine. After the tow truck driver got me back into the garage, I threw a load tester on and the battery is fine. Does this seem like a starter issue or something further into ignition? I wanted to get some imput before I dive into it.
Thanks!

Re: Starter or worse??
Test the battery and check the battery cables for loose or corroded.

Re: Starter or worse??
It may still may be the battery.. how long have you had this battery for? is it the orginal?
The most battery testers do not test cranking amps. it may have enough juice to power lights, radio and any other accessory, but not enough to start an engine. replace the battery if it is more than 4 years old.

Re: Starter or worse??
The battery was replaced when I bought the truck..about 3 years ago. It's A Delco 6 year battery and the connections are clean and tight. I have also tried to jump it without sucess.
Thanks for the quick reply!!

Re: Starter or worse??
If that is the case then I would go ahead and have the starter checked out.

Re: Starter or worse??
Alright...sure enough it was the starter. I dropped it down and sure enough the wire from the starter selinoid was completely broken off. Was it from too much stress or was it just it's time to go??? Who knows, the bottom line is that a trip to the parts store and a nice new starter and she fired right up.
Thanks for your guys' help and hopefully this helps someone in the future!

Scott_1553: Could you tell us exactly what wire was broken. Was it a wire coming from the chassis to the starter or a wire that was a part of the starter?
Thanks.........Steve
