Cool The MX-6 build

i am going to start off by saying that i just bought a 94 mx6 with the klde v6 and a 5spd for about 870$. maybe i shoulda paid more attention to the saying "you get what you paid for". it drove rough, screaming "i need a tune up!". about 5 miles from home, it started overheating....bad. so bad that it stalled out and would not move at all . smoke everywhere, so it had to be towed. i got to working on it and turns out the previous owner only put water in it for coolant . fans work, and the idle is a little off but the coolant issue is what i'm going to get at first.

this car has potential, i have a plan on the build of it but i need to get it running right first. i will post up some pics of the car as soon as i can get them on my comp

Re: The MX-6 build

i priced the thermostat and head gasket(s) today. both together would be under 100$ but i am still unsure on what i'll need to repair it.

obviously i'm going to need some special tools to do some of this work so i need to keep that in mind too. $$$

unfortunately the trans in my focus is slipping now so that will prolly slow my progress down a good bit . i hope to have pictures up by this weekend

Its the 2.5 right? So its aluminum and its overheated. You should creak that it hasn't warped before you start doing stuff to it. You could call up NortheastSHO and get a 3.0 Yamaha motor and fit it in there. Its been done before but it goes:P. Looking for a brake kit for my buddy, has an MX-6 and is putting a Yamaha motor in it. By the way its like $200 for a 3.0.

Re: The MX-6 build

yeah, i'm just going to do a few things to check before i pull the heads off (which i'll prolly end up doing anyway) thermo, plugs & wires, oil change, and a collant flush. if that doesnt tell me anything then i will be pulling the heads off and having them checked for warpage.

a little later down the road i have plans for the jspec klze but i want to get this motor running right (ior determined that it prolly needs an entire overhaul) before i look into buying one

Re: The MX-6 build

havent posted in a while but last weekend i replaced the thermo, plugs and wires in it and its still overheating. its looking more and more like a blown head gasket on every run. what came out of the thermo housing didnt help much either, it was a "piece" of the old thermo, A PIECE. i'm also going to need a new battery soon because this one is going bad, and not holding much of a charge anymore.

i havent had the chance to upload any photos yet because of how long it takes on dial up but i'm going to edit them when i get a chance to get them downsized enough to post
