No 4LO

Can't get my auto transfer case into 4LO. When I push the 4LO button it sounds like the transfer case is going to come apart with gears grinding and clunking. This is on an '05 GM. Any Ideas as to what gives?

Re: No 4LO

Are you completely stopped when trying to switch it into 4low? Try putting the tranny into nuterual then switching the xfer case into 4low.

Re: No 4LO

Thanks for the advice but I do know how to properly shift and operate the unit. I've been driving these 4x4's for years. The problem on this truck just suddenly appeared out of the blue. It was working great since new and never abused.
All other drive modes work fine.

Re: No 4LO

Took it in to my dealer today, looks like its gonna set me back $1800 for a major rebuild. Apparenlty some gear set broke. Only was used 4 times in 4 LO , not impressed!

I had the same problem except it would act like it engaged but never did. Was it the front input shaft that broke? It cost me $1,600 to have it fixed.

He said it was something at stupid as a Friday part and a Monday part that never lined up right from the start.

Just wondering if that was the same story with yours too..

Just for info. Did the dealer give you any indication of the cause and was it covered under warranty?

Re: No 4LO

Just one of those things and no warranty or goodwill. Truck was 8000km over warranty.
