4.8 vs the 5.3

I've been looking at new truck window stickers and keep wondering to myself why would anyone opt to get the 4.8 V8 over the 5.3? Did the older trucks with the 4.8 get better milage than the 5.3? The new one list 20 highway with the 5.3 and 19 for the 4.8's. Are there any bennifits to getting a 4.8?

not really. I think the 4.8 L is a little cheaper and is rated to have less HP and torque.

Re: 4.8 vs the 5.3

I believe the 4.8 was the base engine for the 1500 series from '99 and up or something like that. The 5.3 was the next level up as an option. Definitely worth the $$

maybe for the LS or base model, but for the LT it was given the 5.3 as a standard option

You're right, I have an '01 LS and now that I think back, I remember seeing the 5.3 as standard on an LT window sticker when I was buying.

Re: 4.8 vs the 5.3

I have an LS, but I made sure it had the 5.3 LT was a little out of my price range.
