Little Help, Fuel pump going out ?

OK here's what I change, I started cheap to I hope not expense.

I change the spark plugs and wires, air filter, fuel filter, pvc valve. I have an 4.8 liter v8 truck, silverado 2002 auto, not 4x4.

So here's the problem, This happens about once a week. When I try to start my truck it will turn, but it will not kick over. But it only happens once a week and it only seems to happen when i try to crank the truck over quickly. Like if I turn it to on position then crank it will start with no problem, But if i try to start the engine without going to the on position for a few secs it will just turn , but won't crank over. But this seems to be happening once a week to week and half. So My thought is the fuel pump ? Or could it be the starter , starter relay ? Fuse(just throwing it out there) ? Also do you guys know where to get a fuel pump on the internet that is , And would you happen to know the PART # ? I know i should do my own ground work. But i'm 90% sure it's the fuel pump....

A weak fuel pump would most likely give you more problems, such as lean mixture codes, etc. Since you can start it with the key on for a couple of sec's without problems I would lean towards the fuel press reg or a leak down in the system.

If you decide to change the pump, try http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/. for prices and make sure you give the VIN to whoever you decide to purchace from. Hope you'll stick with AC/Delco.

Re: Little Help, Fuel pump going out ?

It could be a fuel pump, but my first impression was the starter or starter related. I would check and clean all connections and /or terminals.

Re: Little Help, Fuel pump going out ?

So i change out the fuel pump. I had some issues with the new pump and wire harness. I guess i have a CA truck and there is two connectors on the truck(fuel pump) and i bought the one with just one. So i go to napa and find out that they also change the wire connection for the fuel pump ,other the being square connector you have to change it to a line(can't think of a name) connector . Which it all work out. The gas tank is plastic, which i guess is good because it was very light to drop and i ran the truck until the fuel light came on. The hardest part had to be the fill tube, you have to unscrew it. also You have a ground wire running off it and it goes above the frame. So you have to bend it around to get it right but to get it back on it's a pain because yo uhave to line up the holes by the gas gap to screw it on right.
Then you have to tighten the hose clamp on the gas tank and fill tube.

Re: Little Help, Fuel pump going out ?

I'll tell you if it solves the problem, i hope it does, if it doesn't i'm going to start messing with the starter, then if it doesn't i'm going take it so where and have them check out my timing belt(?)/chain(?)
