96 Blazer 4x4 remove seized engine HELPGMCPic 09-04-2007, 03:50 PM Have 1996 Chevy S-10 4x4 Blazer w/Automatic Trans. Lost all the oil on a trip to Reno NV. from Susanville CA. Oil line from filter (mounted under radiator) to oil cooler in radiator came lose. No warning until to late to stop damage, engine locked up tight. Book says in order to remove the engine for replacement you must remove the bolts from torque converter...to remove bolts you must turn the engine so the bolts line up with the starter hole. How do you remove the bolts on an engine the is froze solid. Not enough room to remove pan, can not drop engine. So far, best idea is use a cutting torch on hole vehicle. How do you remove a 4.3L Vortec V6 that is frozen solid, from a S-10 Blazer 4x4 when you can not turn engine to remove torque converter nuts. I have removed the drive lines and transfer case, next is the transmission...also removed the intake and distributor, water pump and timing cover. Any advice/help will be appreciated. blazer4x4 09-04-2007, 09:05 PM you will prob. have to drop the tranny down to get to the torque convertor bolts. I just got done rebuilding my 99 blazer but my motor was not seized up so i was able to turn the crankshaft to remove to torque convertor bolts. blazes9395 09-04-2007, 11:27 PM You'll have to remove the torque convertor with the engine. Just unbolt the transmission from the engine and the torque convertor will eventually be pulled off withthe engine. Be careful though, as you'll have to easily do this so you don't damage the seal and bearing on the tranmission as your pulling the engine out. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
