Should I buy a Corolla?

I am looking at a 2000 Corolla that I am thinking of buying for my daughter. The car has 68,000 miles on it and is listed at $7,995. Is this a fair price? My father in law had an older Corolla and loved it. My daughter is in college and I would like peace of mind knowing that she will be in good hands when she is driving to and from school. Any advice anyone could give me would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

Re: Should I buy a Corolla?

Hi.Is this car at a dealer? Toyota's have a high resale value. I looked at one simular to the car you looked at, and it was at a Toyota dealer they wanted over $8000.00 !! I own a 1997 Corolla,Best car I evere had 127000 miles on it with very few problems (had to replace starter).I think it would be a great car for your daughter.Have a good day..Diesel 1962

Re: Should I buy a Corolla?

don't know if i would give that price for a 2000 . but as long as you don't run the motor hot you or your daughter will get years of service out of a toyota and i have a '92 that has 300,000 miles on it . just put new inner and outer tierods on and new struts front and back . and it drives like a new one.check edmonds.com for a book price on it then you can see what its worth. a dealer is going to try and get high book out of it . but most will talk down some as they want to sell it. mpg is around 30 to 35 . i always test drive one easy at first then dog it before i take it back. then tell the dealer what i found wrong with it and ask him or her if they will fix it most will if not get them down on the price with the cars faults. then tell them you want to get the quote in writing if he comes down. then sleep on it. if you decide to buy it keep it a couple of days and check it out real good or take it to someone you trust to check it out. if you find more things wrong with it more to negotiate the price with. but bottom line they are good cars

Re: Should I buy a Corolla?

I have a 91 with about 200,000 miles on it. I have had the car for a many years and have replaced alot of things(all of which were cheap). I would suggest driving the car. Find someone who knows cars well and have them drive it and inspect it. If its not a dealer and just a normal seller, its easy to say the car is in good shape. Sadly I have known a few dealerships that way as well. The price sounds right to me if the car is in good shape and doesn't have any problems.

Re: Should I buy a Corolla?

Edmunds.com states dealer retail for an 00 Corolla to be ~$4,900-$5,200. My best friend has a 98 Corolla with more than double the miles and the only problem was a small issue with the windshield wipers. There is a reason that the Corolla is the best selling car of all time. Yeah 8,000 seems a bit high. Try to negotiate it down to like $6,000 or so.

Stay away from them, the engines are junk and go for $1,500.00 if you can find one at an auto wrecking yard. Most yards cannot keep them in stock, the engines sell really easy.I know a wrecking yard owner that has a list of people wanting one of those engines.
