Hi guys, I am just wondering if anyone had same problem like I am having now with my z24 with a 3 speed auto. My rpm is too high (3200 rpm) when going at a speed of 60mph or 100 kph. My tranny shifts good but the rpm is too high. Could it be the TCC solenoid or something else? But my car doesn't stall from high to low speed. Gas mileage is bad due to this problem. Need Help. Thank you.

3200rpm for 60mph isnt too high...

Depends on if you are driving flat or up hill... i noticed that my car is about 2200 rpm when going 60 if i let go the gas, and if i speed up to 60 from 55mph, it is at 3000 rpm...

most companies gear automatic transmissions to be at 2500 rpm's or lower at highway speeds (65 according to them). its what mine runs at and any other car i have been in other than manuals, which vary, and trucks, which run WAY lower. my roomies ram runs at 1900 at 70. it does seem a lil high, but the only thing that i could think of that would cause the problem would be the overdrive not kicking in.

So what could be the problem? I was driving on the flat highway. Could it be my TCC pressure switch or the solenoid or both? I need help real bad. I know 3000 RPM on the steady speed of 60MPH is a bit too high. Sucks gas like crazy.

did u just get it or let it sit for a long time (years) or have u been driving it for a while

mine befor i sarted rebuilding it sat for about 4 years and when I first started running it, it idled way to high but I let it idle for a bit and it dropped down

the idle rpm and all that is computer controlled and sometimes needs to be tuned up

Could be a clogged filter in the tranny...... Could also be an unplugged TCC... at the bellhousing area, under the air filter box -- (be careful with this.... They are usually unplugged because they are sticking.... which can also be a sign of a bad ECM..... went through this with my 93 Beretta)
